PL: Serdecznie witamy w Krakowie dr Felixa Kaputu, kolejnego stypendystę naszego miasta w ramach programu ICORN – Międzynarodowej Sieci Miast Uchodźstwa. Urodzony w 1959 r. Felix Kaputu jest specjalistą w dziedzinie afrykanistyki, sztuki i filozofii, zajmował się także problematyką gender, mitologią i literaturą afrykańską. Jest autorem sześciu książek i blisko 60 publikacji, dotyczących m.in. trudnej sytuacji kobiet w Afryce, problematyki HIV i AIDS.
Dr Kaputu wyjechał z Konga w 2006 roku w ramach programu “Scholars at Risk”. W roku wcześniejszym został aresztowany bez nakazu przez Agencję Bezpieczeństwa Narodowego (ANR) i był przetrzymywany przez 10 dni, podczas których odmawiano mu jedzenia i grożono śmiercią. Był świadkiem stosowania przemocy fizycznej i tajemniczych zniknięć innych zatrzymanych. Następnie przeniesiony został do zakładu więzienno-resocjalizacyjnego Makala w Kinszasie, z którego ostatecznie został zwolniony dzięki staraniom Amnesty International oraz innych naukowców. Pozostawał jednak pod ścisłym nadzorem władz, co skutecznie uniemożliwiło mu powrót na uniwersytet.
W Krakowie planuje skończyć swój drugi doktorat poświęcony tożsamości kulturowej mieszkańców Afryki Środkowej oraz ukończyć dwie już rozpoczęte powieści.
Dr Kaputu jest szóstym krakowskim stypendystą w ramach ICORN, wcześniej gościła tutaj między innymi turecka pisarka i działaczka społeczna Aslı Erdoğan, której dramatyczną relację z obecnych wydarzeń z Turcji można znaleźć tutaj.

ENG: We would like to warmly welcome in Krakow Dr. Felix Kaputu, another scholar to stay in our city within the ICORN program – The International Cities of Refuge Network. Born in 1959, Felix Kaputu is a specialist in the fields of African studies, art and philosophy, interested also in the issues of gender, African mythology and literature. He is an author of six books and nearly 60 publications concerning, among others, the difficult situation of women in Africa, HIV and AIDS.
Dr. Kaputu left Congo in 2006 thanks to “Scholars at Risk” program. In the previous year he was arrested without a warrant by the National Security Agency (ANR) and held for 10 days, during which he was denied food and threatened with death. He witnessed the use of physical violence and mysterious disappearances of other detainees. Then he was transferred to the Makala correctional facility in Kinshasa, from where he got finally released due to the efforts of Amnesty International and other scholars. He remained, however, under the strict supervision of the authorities, what made it impossible for him to return to the university.
In Krakow, he plans to finish his second PhD dedicated to the cultural identity of the inhabitants of Central Africa and complete two novels he has already started.
Dr. Kaputu is the sixth Krakow’s ICORN scholar. The city has previously host, among others, Turkish writer and social activist Aslı Erdoğan, whose dramatic account of current events taking place in Turkey can be found here.
