Inicjatywa Witajcie w Krakowie, Fundacja Nahda i Instytut Goethego w Krakowie mają przyjemność zaprosić na koncert Christiny Eshak i Wassima Ibrahima, syryjskich muzyków studiujących w Krakowie.
Christina Eshak pochodzi z położonego nad Morzem Śródziemnym Tartus, Wassim Ibrahim z Damaszku. Przed wyjazdem z Syrii byli członkami Syryjskiej Orkiestry Narodowej, Wassim pracował jako nauczyciel solfeżu, Christina wystąpiła w pierwszej wystawionej w stolicy Syrii operze. Od 2013 roku studiują na krakowskiej Akademii Muzycznej.
Podczas koncertu zabiorą nas w bliskowschodnią muzyczną podróż przez Syrię, Liban, Jordanię i Egipt, aż po odległą Andaluzję. Przeniosą nas w najstarsze miejsca na ziemi, zaprezentują bogactwo arabskich dźwięków i różnorodność bliskowschodniej kultury.
“Trip to the East” to jednak nie tylko okazja, żeby zapoznać się z niezwykłą tradycją muzyczną Bliskiego Wschodu, ale też z syryjskimi artystami, którzy, wyjeżdżając z kraju ogarniętego wojną, wybrali Kraków jako miejsce swojego zamieszkania.
Koncert odbędzie się w Instytucie Goethego w Krakowie.

Od 7 kwietnia można też zobaczyć w Instytucie Goethego wystawę “Witaj, drogi wrogu”, przedstawiającą rysunki i książki dla dzieci z Francji, Wielkiej Brytanii, Niemiec, Szwecji i Portugalii poruszające temat konfliktów i uchodźstwa w sposób przystępny dla najmłodszych.

Wassim Ibrahim – doktorant na Akademii Muzycznej w Krakowie na wydziale kompozycji. Jego kompozycje były grane w Wiedniu, Nowym Jorku, Krakowie i Warszawie. Aranżował utwory dla orkiestr w Syrii i Jordanii. Jest członkiem chóru Syryjskiej Orkiestry Narodowej, The Syrian Chamber of the High Institute of Music oraz Rainbow Choir, z którymi często koncertował w Syrii i zagranicą. Od 2008 jest nauczycielem solfeżu (czytania nut głosem). W Syrii szkolił dzieci, w tym niedosłyszące i z autyzmem oraz młodzież. Współpracował z takimi organizacjami jak the Syrian Arabic Association for SOS Children’s Village, Ormina Music Institute, Amaal Organization, oraz Solhi Al Wadi Institute – wiodącą szkołą muzyczną w Syrii. Obecnie udziela lekcji solfeżu w Kontakcie – Przestrzeni Ruchu i Tańca i prowadzi zajęcia w Szkołach Waldorfskich w Krakowie.
Christina Eshak – śpiewaczka operowa, sopran, sopran koloraturowy. Studiowała literaturę angielską i jest absolwentką High Institute of Music w Damaszku. Była częścią obsady, gdy w stolicy Syrii po raz pierwszy wystawiano operę („Wesele Figara”). Wcieliła się też w rolę Bet w musicalu „Olivier Twist”. Wystąpiła w „Requiem” Mozarta wystawianym w Jordanii. Podobnie jak Wassim jest członkinią chóru Syryjskiej Orkiestry Narodowej. Dubbingowała arabskie wersje piosenek do filmów rysunkowych produkowanych przez Disney Channel, Aljazeera Childreen i Cartoon Network. Występowała w teatrze MuTha w Wiedniu. Obecnie pracuje jako lektorka języka arabskiego w Szkole Jezyków Obcych Makilen w Krakowie. Ostatnio wystąpiła w roli Belindy w operze „Dydon i Eneasz” Henrego Purcella wystawianej przez Akademię Muzyczną w Krakowie.

Welcome to Krakow Initiative, the Nahda Foundation and the Goethe Institute in Krakow have a pleasure to invite you to the concert of Christina Eshak and Wassim Ibrahim, Syrian musicians studying in the city.
Christina Eshak comes from Tartus located on the Mediterranean shore and Wassim Ibrahim is from Damascus. Before leaving Syria they were members of the Syrian National Orchestra. Wassim worked as a teacher of solfeggio, Christina appeared in the first opera ever staged in the Syrian capital. At 2013 they entered the Academy of Music in Krakow.
During the concert they will take us on a musical journey through Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt to finally reach the distant Andalusia. They will transport us to the oldest places on Earth, showing the richness of Arab sounds and the diversity of the Middle Eastern culture.
“Trip to the East” is not only an opportunity to explore the extraordinary musical tradition of the Middle East. It is also an occasion to meet Syrian artists who after fleeing the war chose Krakow as their place of residence.

We would like to also invite you to visit the exhibition “Witaj, drogi wrogu/Welcome Dear Enemy” taking place in the Goethe Institute. From the 7th of April drawings and children’s books from France, Great Britain, Germany, Sweden and Portugal talking about conflicts and refugees are exhibited in a manner adapted for children.
Wassim Ibrahim – PhD candidate at the Academy of Music in Krakow in the Department of Composition. His compositions were played in Vienna, New York, Krakow and Warsaw. He arranged music for orchestras in Syria and Jordan. Member of the Choir of the Syrian National Orchestra, The Syrian Chamber of the High Institute of Music and the Rainbow Choir, with which he has often performed in Syria and abroad. Since 2008 a teacher of solfeggio (reading the musical notation with the voice). In Syria he was training children, including hearing-impaired and autistic youth. He has collaborated with various organizations such as the Syrian Arabic Association for SOS Children’s Village, Ormina Music Institute, Amaal Organization and Solhi Al Wadi Institute – the leading music school in Syria. Currently gives solfeggio lessons at Przestrzeń Ruchu i Tańca and teaches at the Waldorf Schools in Krakow.
Christina Eshak – opera singer, soprano, coloratura soprano. She studied English Literature and graduated from the High Institute of Music in Damascus. Christina was among the cast of the first opera ever staged in the Syrian capital (“The Marriage of Figaro”). She later portrayed the role of Beth in the musical “Oliver Twist.” She also appeared in “Requiem” by Mozart staged in Jordan. Like Wassim, she is a member of the Choir of the Syrian National Orchestra. She did dubbing for the Arab versions of songs for cartoons produceded by Disney Channel, Aljazeera Childreen and Cartoon Network. Christina has collaborated with MuTha in Vienna. Currently works as Arabic teacher at the Makilen School of Foreign Languages in Krakow. She most recently starred as Belinda in the opera “Dido and Aeneas” by Henry Purcell staged by the Academy of Music in Krakow.
